Set to begin September 30th through March 30, 2011 Belly Dance Super Star’s New Show: Bombay Bellywood will tour 75 cities across the US.
The closest city that I see on their tour calendar is Eugene, OR towards the end of January 2011. Looks like a worthy road trip to me!
From the Bombay Bellywood page:
“…To be sure, the Bellydance Superstars are not purists, and proud of it. They see the art of Bellydance as a living art capable of absorbing new elements and spreading its wings to captivate ever more people in ever more cultures. Indian dance has also morphed in unique ways so that the term Bollywood means different things to different people but to all it spells exotic India today. The Bellydance Superstars motto could be “creatively true”. Don’t loose the essence of the dance art but don’t be afraid to expand its horizons. Yes there is a reason this troupe is important.
We are excited to take BOMBAY BELLYWOOD to the world to further advance the cause of Bellydance as well as to show the richness of Indian dance forms. We promise continued dedication to the art of dance and to delivering a great evening’s entertainment. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Dance. Long Live the Bellydance Superstars.”
“This recital work, choreographed by Donna Mejia, was performed in the 2008 Faculty Dance Concert for Smith College in Northampton, MA. The music is “Wonder” by Lynx (ASCAP fees paid). Backdrop Images of traditional Ottoman textiles used by permission of Interlink Publishing. Ensemble: Cyndal Ellis, Jericha Senyak, Katrina Totten, Zoe Kantor, Kira Disen, Annie Parker, Laura Markis, Aiden Bartelt, Chelsea Wise, Leah Moriarty, Bethany Luisos, Sandra Vega and Cecily Parker. Soloist: Donna Mejia and Mohammadreza Moradi.
The dance seeks common denominators between Persian, Turkish and Arab vernacular while dialoging with the electronic accents in the music.”

His birthday (Wiki) happens to fall on today, September 11th this year.
Ganesh is the Hindu God considered to be the Remover of Obstacles, Lord of Beginnings, Patron of Arts and Sciences, Lord of Intellect and Wisdom. He’s been a favorite of mine for a long, long time.
Today, I think about his wisdom.

We are back from the playa! We had a wonderful burn this year, and what an exceptional group of campmates this year. Fantastic real estate too, right on the corner of 9:00 & G streets directly across from “Distrikt” Day-Rave! We almost never had to leave home, as the party came to us daily!
But for a brief chilly rain on Monday, the weather was outstanding all week long. It couldn’t have been more perfect. We reconnected with all of our wonderful n playful playa friends, and even served as bridesmaids on Friday for a beautiful wedding. Congratulations again, Lisa and AstroPop!!
